When you plan to birth at home, you can also plan to have all your prenatal and postpartum visits at home too!
I come right to you for all prenatal visits (or we can meet at my office), whichever is convenient especially when there are siblings who need naps and are more comfortable in their own play spaces! Labs are drawn on your couch and we can spend an hour together at visits. We bond and share a cup of hot tea while I monitor and medically assess you and your baby’s health. We chat through physiological pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I listen to you and love hearing from you. What’s in your heart and mind as a mother and father is worth so much and I value your insights on you and your baby. I am a team member with my clients!
We’ll go over different out-of-hospital childbirth education options and which you might connect best with. Breastfeeding education and postpartum preparation are also part of our time together. I’ll present you options for everything from where to have a diagnostic sonogram, to where to get additional referrals and resources for all your pregnancy and postpartum needs. That includes doulas, nannies, and childcare facilities. We discuss ways to improve nutrition if needed through supplements and focusing on getting as close to the source of foods as possible…living foods for living bodies! We talk through the state of Texas requirements. We’ll go over education on blood pressure monitoring, belly mapping, kick counts and I’ll demonstrate Spinning Babies exercises which are all great ways to be directly involved and connected to this miraculous journey you are on. I’m holistic and offer a variety of ways to increase health and wellness through nutrition, homeopathic, and herbal remedies. If prescriptions are needed and physician referrals become part of the plan, I can help point you in the right direction. We are partners together in your healthcare, so we stay in touch during the in-between times until your next visit too! I’m always just a text away! (Text during office hours please)
Fellowship & community is also in my heart. If you want to have dinner with the family or go out with my husband and me just as adults, we are always happy to have that time together to grow friendships in addition to prenatal care. Midwife means “with women” and doing life together during pregnancy and after pregnancy is just that. It’s being with women during all stages and even breaking bread together.
I host "birth" story-telling and other events as often as I can. Gathering for storytelling has been part of history for thousands of years. We learn from one another. Women can recall their birth like it happened yesterday. They might forget the name of their doctor or midwife, but they will never forget how they felt. Storytelling preserves the essence of birth. It keeps birth normalized, connected, and alive for the next generations.
